Paper Bowl Size Guide: Choosing Between 500ml and 1000ml

A quick reference to the 500ml, 650ml, 750ml and 1000ml square paper bowl sizes - dimensions, use cases and lid compatibility.

Square paper bowls come in four standard sizes between 500ml and 1000ml. Picking the right one is a balance between portion honesty, presentation and logistics - a bowl that is too small overflows, one that is too large makes a normal portion look skimpy and wastes shelf space. Here is the quick map from size to use case.

500ml (17oz): sushi, salads and sides

The 500ml bowl runs 172 x 120 mm at the top with a 152 x 100 mm base and a 43 mm height. The shallow profile suits sushi sets, side salads, fruit and small hot dishes - anything served flat where the customer sees the food through the clear lid. It is also the natural choice for kids' portions and tasting flights.

650ml (22oz): small dishes and pan-fried items

The 650ml steps up to a 51 mm height on the same 172 x 120 mm top, with a 150 x 98 mm base. The extra depth absorbs sauced dishes - pan-fried buns, braised sides, snack portions - without crowding. If your menu mixes dry and sauced small plates, 650ml is the flexible middle size.

750ml (25oz): rice bowls and kimchi

At 58 mm high, the 750ml holds a full single-serve rice bowl, kimchi portions and noodle dishes with sauce. The shared 172 x 120 mm top means it closes with the same lid family as the 500ml and 650ml, so adding this size to a range does not multiply your lid SKUs.

1000ml (34oz): hearty noodles and sharing

The 1000ml keeps the same top opening but deepens to 75 mm, with a tapered 145 x 85 mm base that firms up the pack under weight. It handles clam noodles, cold-noodle portions, skewer-and-rice combinations and larger sharing sides. For delivery programs, check your bag dimensions - the 75 mm height is the tallest profile in the range.

One lid system across the range

Because 500ml, 650ml and 750ml share the 172 x 120 mm top, one clear-lid and one paper-lid spec covers three bowl sizes - and the 1000ml adds just one more lid. That is deliberately built for buyers: fewer lids, simpler stock counts and easier mix-and-match menus.

Confirm with real food

Paper specs read drier than they eat. Order a sample set across the four sizes, plate your actual menu portions, and check three things: fill level at handover, closure under sauce weight, and fit in your delivery bags. Tell us your dishes and portion targets and we will recommend the size mix before you sample.
